How can I move my Exact environment to Microsoft Azure?
Introduction
I am currently running Exact Globe Next, Exact Synergy Enterprise and\or Exact Lightweight Integration Server (ELIS) on premise or with a hosting provider, how can I move this environment to Microsoft Azure?

Explanation
In this document we will explain the steps to migrate your Exact environment to Microsoft Azure using the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model as explained here. This document is intended for Exact employees involved in migrations to Microsoft Azure. It highlights the minimal necessary steps, it is by no means a complete guide to be used as reference material for the actual migration
The migration of your environment consists of the below steps.
Setup your required Microsoft components in Microsoft Azure
To set this up correctly we refer to the documentation from Microsoft. Please take note that due to availability reasons multiple virtual machines might be required or because of performance reasons virtual machines need special configuration. This is beyond the scope of this document and not included in the services offering of Exact. It is strongly recommended to have an Azure specialist involved in the migration to Microsoft Azure. This environment should at least include the following components:
- One or more virtual machines to run Microsoft SQL Server
- One or more virtual machines to run Microsoft Active Directory
- One or more virtual machines to run Internet Information Services
- A Remote Desktop Services infrastructure
- One or more virtual machines to run ELIS, Backgroundjobs of Exact Synergy Enterprise and possible other background jobs
- A virtual network
Note: This step can be compared with setting up an environment on premise or at a hosting provider so it is ready for Exact consultants to install and configure Exact. This steps also includes making sure users can login to the environment.
Install Exact Globe Next
Now the environment is ready on Microsoft and Infrastructure level the next step is to install Exact Globe Next. Installation is done in the same way as on premise or at a hosting provider, no special steps required.
Install Exact Synergy Enterprise
Now the environment is ready on Microsoft and Infrastructure level the next step is to install Exact Synergy Enterprise. Installation is done in the same way as on premise or at a hosting provider, no special steps required. Make sure to also configure the background jobs.
Install Exact Lightweight Integration Server
Now the environment is ready on Microsoft and Infrastructure level the next step is to install ELIS. Installation is done in the same way as on premise or at a hosting provider, no special steps required.
Migration of the Exact databases
Now the databases used by the different products can be moved to Microsoft Azure. The databases of Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise can be copied to the Microsoft SQL Server running in Microsoft Azure. To migrate the ELIS database it is recommended to start with a new ELIS database in the new environment. If Exact Integrator is used, the keylookup tables need to be populated again. To do that, run the ELIS migration tool. For other solutions, like CMDM or Word Merge, it is mandatory to run the ELIS Repair tool and perform the reset option on the Exact Globe Next and Exact Synergy Enterprise databases.
